Following the success of their summer programme so far The Gallery at Munro House will open their next exhibition on the 3rd August. Offering an exciting and original calender of events all year round, ‘Cornel Lucas Photographs‘ is the latest in a series of successful exhibitions on offer by The Gallery this year.
The Gallery At Munro House opened its doors in 2011 and has offered a wide ranging programme of events and exhibitions since opening, their impressive exhibitions as well as relaxed atmosphere have created an impressive gallery which has found a place at the heart of Leeds’ creative sphere. Their events calender is one to watch and ‘Cornel Lucas Photographs’ is certainly not one to miss. Situated just of Duke Street, Leeds The Gallery offers fantastic exhibitions in unique surroundings. Located in the previous Victorian Textiles Mill the high ceilings and light airy rooms offer an impressive viewing and café space.
Throughout August and September The Gallery will present a stunning selection of iconic photography by British photographer Cornel Lucas (1920-2012). Internationally acclaimed and celebrated Lucas was the first photographer to win a BAFTA award for his service and Outstanding Contribution to the British Film Industry. This exhibition presents a fantastic opportunity to view some of the images which lead to Cornel’s success, featuring famous faces such as Brigitte Bardot, Marlene Dietrich and David Niven. Lucas enjoyed a hugely celebrated career which placed him at the forefront of photography for over 70 years. During the 1940s and 1950s he became the UK’s leading movie star photographer capturing movie stars in Britain and further afield.
This exhibition is an exclusive exhibition to both Leeds, and to the Gallery at Munro House, which offers the chance to come up close to the images by a globally celebrated British photographer; as Ellie Andrews of The Gallery at Munro House explains; ‘We are thrilled to be exhibiting Cornel Lucas in Leeds – for the first time this collection of exquisite photography comes to the North of England for people to enjoy.’ This excitement was shared by Linus Lucas of Cornel Lucas collection who said; ‘Set in the heart of Leeds, the city recently named as the birthplace of film, and neighbouring Bradford’s National Media Museum, which houses Cornel’s origional 12″x10″ plate camera; we couldn’t have wished for a better location than The Gallery At Munro House to exhibit this wonderful collection of iconic movie-star portraits’. Bringing famous faces and outstanding photography into the heart of Leeds, Cornel Lucas Photography is well worth a visit.
