Generate: The Crossover Between Art, Community and Collaboration
May 25, 2016
Generate is an ongoing collaboration based in Leeds, created and led by three artists – Alice Chandler, Ellie MacGarry and Nick Kidd. Chandler, who’s practice is inspired by exploring the potential of domesticity and the objects found within every day life, works primarily with Sculpture and Textiles, alongside Kidd, who creates fun, often interactive pieces revolving around the sensory experience. Joining them is MacGarry, primarily a painter exploring mark, texture and composition. Tied together through their joint interests in bold colour, material exploration and sculpture, Generate unite to use play and innovativeness to deliver exciting art workshops, focusing on arts engagement within local communities. Generate’s interests lie in being playful and experimental, thinking about the physicality and potential of materials and the experience of creating.
Generate’s workshops are free and open to all, and will be taking place during May half term in a range of locations.
28th May 11-3pm at Sunny Bank Mills
31st May 11-3pm at Leeds City Museum
2nd June 11-3pm at Assembly House
This ongoing project and programme of workshops will inspire a group exhibition opening on 30th July at Sunny Bank Mills, where Alice, Nick and Ellie will respond to their experiences of delivering interactive and engaging art workshops and unite their plethora of skills to reflect on the Generate project, the crossover between art, community and collaboration manifesting itself in a new body of work.
