Northern Broadsides awarded Arts Council England Small Capital Grant
February 17, 2016
Exciting news for Northern Broadsides! The theatre company (currently touring the UK with their latest production, Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives) has recently been awarded an Arts Council England (ACE) Small Capital Grant to develop facilities for both performers and audiences at their home base of The Viaduct Theatre within Halifax’s Dean Clough complex.
The money will go towards an infra-red assisted listening system and developments include providing safer audience access and spaces for wheelchair users. It will concentrate on health and safety aspects needing attention and re-fit and extend the dressing rooms to create a habitable, multi-purpose space.
Theatre spaces are so important, and it’s great to see such a great Northern theatre getting well-deserved developments. Ten organisations across the North will benefit from the latest round of the Arts Council’s small scale capital awards, the programme that invests in buildings and equipment to increase organisations’ resilience and enable them to offer improved experiences for both artists and the public. How wonderful!
