Award-winning Opera North is England’s most exciting Opera Company. Opera Northstrives to engage Nationally in the Arts and inspire the community to challenge preconceptions about Opera, rewarding this musical art a deserved place in modern society. As part of its development programme, the Company have recently launched a new scheme to introduce students and the young generation to Opera.
The new Under-30s scheme offers a free membership to young people aged 19-29yrs and to those in full time higher education. The membership provides the opportunity to see selected Opera North productions at Leeds Grand Theatre for a fraction of the price, if not free! A student membership card also offers discounts with partnered venues and various bars and restaurants in Leeds. Partnered with Leeds Universities, the scheme also invites members to pre-performance events with cast members and creative teams, as well as exclusive backstage tours, a fantastic opportunity for those with an interest in theatre.
Through the new scheme, Opera Northaims to engage with, and involve the younger generation in breaking down the stigma so often associated with Opera. Molly Featherson, a leader of the scheme, describes how many of Opera North’s performances are ‘designed for younger people’ and ‘address modern concepts’. The scheme will expand the accessibility and availability of this art form and hopefully introduce a new and inspiring night out for students and young people in Leeds.
Membership for the U30s scheme is now available online and was officially launched on May 7th.
