Poetry with Ms Anamoli Meraki
November 30, 2015
Last month, TSOTA spoke to Sheffield-based poet Ms Anamoli Meraki. You can read the interview and a original poem here. This month, we follow up with a second piece of her work entitled ‘Fire and Flames’.
Fire and Flames
It’s always fire that gets the blame
Never the ones who ignite the flames
Like the government funded initiatives; igniting flames of hatred
But instead of being banned; it’s spread, accepted and even celebrated
The wolves at the top selecting our fittest to fight
In wars they didn’t start, where they risk losing their lives.
Cult leaders spewing poison-laced sermons to their congregations
Creating kids with fire up their arses, picket signs in their hands and being forced to sing anti gay songs
When the truth of the gospel is: God is love.
We’ve got to stop spreading fires ignited from them up above.
Cos it’s corruption you see, they ignite the fires then stand back and watch
As we become their infected, blistered, flaming, chargrilled flock
Branded like cattle, by the markings of their vicious scolds
And before we realise it, we’ve got smoke choking our sold-out souls
And it’s always the fire that gets the blame
Never the ones who ignite the flames
So next time you feel your soul is on fire
Let it be from a burning passion inside ya.
Burn bold and bright and let the furnace roar
And like iron, create something, solid, strong and pure
And remember if following the orders of another
You ensure that the fires they ignite sit well within ya
Don’t allow yourself to become another dangerous arsonist
By spreading hate fuelled fires ignited by the ‘elitists’
Cos to the elitists as they are often called
You’re just a pawn in their game of lies, fires and wars
And it’s always the fire that gets the blame
Never the ones who ignite the flames
So be true to yourself and the fires within you
Because those are the fires you are born to attend to.
