Preview: Week 2 – Culture Month @ University of Leeds
September 14, 2015
Last week, we delved headlong into the world of intercontinental cultural exchange, with an in-depth look at the first-week festivities of the University of Leeds/Confucius Business Institute’s Culture Month. Today we turn our attention to what its second week holds in store!
Wednesday 7th October sees the art of tea-making descend upon the Maurice Keyworth Building of the Leeds University Business School, as you’ll be treated to a display of brewmaking over 1000 years in the making. The workshop is £8 entry, and includes an in-depth tutorial on tea-making followed by a ceremonial performance by some guests visiting from China for Culture Month.
Friday 9th October is a night in which Leeds Civic Hall comes to life with ‘Spotlight on Fashion Fusion: East Meets West’, a free evening show dedicated to Chinese and UK clothing design. Catwalk shows and fashion exhibitions abound as Chinese clothing organisation QingYi Apparel bring their Taoist-inspired designs to Yorkshire, alongside Leeds fashion students from the College of Art, and local designers working with fabric from the Leeds textiles company Hainsworth. The night is stitched into the fabric of wider annual event Leeds Light Night, making for an unforgettable evening of visual splendour.
We’ll be back this time next week with more previews for Culture Month’s third week, but in the meantime you can browse the events on offer at their webpage.
