somewhereto_ takes over Wood Street for a pop-up Xmas market
December 5, 2015
Today, on Saturday 5th December, somewhereto_ is taking over Wood Street to bring you a pop-up Xmas market with a twist!
Christmas shoppers looking for something a little different in the way of gifts, art and entertainment this year should look no further than FESTIV_ALT, a pop-up market presented by somewhereto_ and WE ARE.
The Christmas market with a difference is free to all visitors and will be taking over 4 empty shops on Wood Street, Wakefield. See artwork, music and stalls from 12pm-5pm and Live music from 3pm-8pm.
The event will feature a programme of live performances from up-and-coming local artists including Wakefield’s own Lewis Armitage, Loz Campbell, Jack Winn and The Ainsley Band. There will also be a large number of artists selling and exhibiting their work from illustrations to hand screen prints, woven cushions to sculptures.
FESTIV_ALT will be packed with market stalls selling unique and original Christmas gifts made by local 16-25 year old artists, makers, entrepreneurs and craftspeople, who have been offered the space for free as a platform for their businesses and talents.
Swap commercialism for community this Christmas and have a great day out while supporting local entrepreneurs and craftspeople as part of UK wide campaign Small Business Saturday!
FESTIV_ALT is running in several venues across the UK, with sister events happening in Birmingham, Brighton, London and Nottingham.
The pop-up has been created by somewhereto_, a UK wide programme which unlocks free space for 16-25 year old creatives and entrepreneurs. The initiative is funded by a £7 million grant from the Big Lottery Fund.
