This May, theatre company RIPTIDE is bringing SWARM, a completely innovative and contemporary experience to Leeds. The recently-developed creative space Studio 24 will be modified into a nightclub, where club and theatregoers will unite into an experience which is set to perplex its audience with what is reality, and what is not.
RIPTIDE is a company that specializes in immersive theatre, based in the north of England. Their aim is to keep their audience heavily involved with performances and let them influence the way events unfold. The SWARM is often found in very unorthodox locations as RIPTIDE breaks the conventions of typical theatre, having their audiences hinged around the narratives and allowing them to engage fully in the mysterious goings-on that only rarely occur outside London.
The company has previously produced some extraordinary spectacles in Exeter, like their psychedelic reconstruction of Shakespeare’s play ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and their show ‘Behind Closed Doors,’ which had audiences swept through a number of different rooms that revealed to them secrets unknown. SWARM is currently working in partnership with some of our local institutions such as Phoenix Dance, Arts Council England, Leeds City College and Leeds Beckett University.
5-7th and 11-14th May. For tickets and more information visit: http://www.theriptide.co.uk/projects/#/swarm/
