The BFI Sci-Fi: Days of Fear and Wonder season has just commenced across the North of England with activity organised by Showroom Workstation (Film Hub North) showcasing a programme of sci-fi films throughout winter 2014 in venues from village halls to multiplexes, from Sheffield to Newcastle and with over 70 events taking place across Yorkshire, Tyne and Wear, Cumbria and Northumberland.

As part of the BFI Sci-Fi season across the North, ILKLEY, HUDDERSFIELD and WAKEFIELD have been selected to host a brand new live music and film event with DJ Yoda as a headline event for BFI Sci-Fi: Days of Fear and Wonder.

‘The Final Frontier’ events, produced by Ilkley Film Festival and Film Hub North as part of BFI Sci-Fi: Days of Fear Wonder (presented together with O2) see DJ Yoda’s new show come to three Yorkshire towns from 27th to 30th November, following its world premiere on Saturday 15 November at BFI Southbank, as part of BFI Sci-Fi

Once described by Q magazine as ‘one of ten DJs to see before you die’, DJ Yoda pioneered a new art form when he used his virtuoso turntable skills to sample film and TV to create intricate and highly-entertaining audiovisual collages. ‘DJ Yoda Goes to the Sci-Fi Movies’ sees the BFI team up with one of the world’s finest manipulators of music and moving image to embark on a cut, paste, scratch and mix odyssey into science fiction.

Wakefield (27th Nov), Huddersfield (29th) and Ilkley (30th) will see venues transformed into not only cinemas, but spectacular music venues as film and music comes together for one night only in towns that have never before held live soundtracked film events on this scale.

Support at all three shows comes in the form of Ilkley Film Festival’s first live music commission: a world premiere live score to A Trip to the Moon by Huddersfield band Stems, produced with support from Arts Council England. The seminal short film by George Méliès is one of the first ever sci-fi films, defining the genre and has since been restored with hand coloured cells.
