Opening this Saturday, Assembly House Studios and Project Space present Where is the Fifth Door? an exhibition of new work by Ryoko Minamitani and Xavier Panadès.

Ryoko Minamitani is a Japanese artist living in Leeds. Working with abstract painting, photography and sculpture, Minamitani is influenced by abstract expressionism, conceptualism, psychology and spiritualism. Her practice is executed by using spiritual methods such as meditation and healing, and she focuses on connecting with the inner unconscious world in order to create art that is deep and meaningful on multiple levels. She believes that contemplation allows us to perceive the existence of silence, creating the space to feel present and free.

Xavier Panadès is similarly interested in utilising meditative techniques to execute his artistic practice. A printmaker by trade, Panadès is also a poet, well known to have internationalised Catalan music.

Ryoko and Xavier’s latest exhibition at Assembly House, Where is the Fifth Door? makes use of poetry and the search for a fifth door, to spark up the non-thinking process and reach a total awareness of the moment.

Assembly House is located at 44 Canal Road, Armley, LS12 2PL. Private View and Performance: Saturday 23rd January 6-9pm. Open: Sunday 24th January 1-4pm. Until Saturday 30th by appointment.
